Renault unveiled its new 4x4 van concept, the Trafic Deck'up, at the Brussels Motor Show.

Based on the company's Ford Transit-sized Trafic van, the six-seater 4x4 is a development of ideas first used on the Kangoo Break'up seen at the Paris show in 2002.

Like the Kangoo concept, the Trafic Deck'up has an open rear platform section featuring a pair of flip-down seats. It is separated from the cabin by a glass divider which can be slid up into the roof to unite the two areas. The main cabin has four independent seats.

Renault says the open platform would make the car ideal for passengers who want unobstructed views.

All three passenger seats swivel through 180 degrees, while the rear two can be slid back along rails to the open-air platform area. Two conventional doors are fitted on the driver's side of the Trafic Deck'up, while a pillarless, rear-hinged arrangement on the opposite side offers easier access to the cabin.

Renault's forthcoming models include two 4x4s in the same mould as the Land Rover Freelander and Volvo XC90. Insiders say the larger XC90-style 4x4 will take many design cues from the Koleos concept unveiled four years ago, while the smaller off-roader will be built on the same platform as the Scenic MPV.
